Coronavirus Craziness (1)

March 13, 2020

The Coronavirus has made its way to Utah.

Yesterday while I was in the middle of running the Young Women basketball games, I got a text from the Stake President saying that we needed to end all games immediately.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints had just sent out a worldwide announcement that all worship services, activities, meetings, and gatherings were cancelled for at least 2 weeks.

The April General Conference for the church had already been changed to an online conference only. Whereas usually there are thousands who gather in SLC twice a year to watch it live at the Conference Center, the Church did not want anyone coming to Temple Square.

But the big news of church stuff stopping made this Coronavirus stuff feel all too real.

All sports leagues, community events, and gatherings over 100 were stopped. Yes…the NBA, MLS, and huge events.

I still sent my children to school today, but by the afternoon we got an email saying that our school district would be shutting down the schools for 2 weeks, possibly more. With Spring Break in there, we will have a 3-week break.

The hope is that by “social distancing” we can flatten the curve of the virus spreading so rapidly.

For months, this virus has been making it ‘s way through the world, starting in China. Admittedly, I never thought that it would become such a big deal and one so close to home.

But it’s here and I think we are starting to live history that will never be forgotten.
